Ironic Contradictions

I'm a long time reader - since way back when I was seven. That makes it over three quarters of my life that I will be a reader for. But it is worth it. When I'm not reading or wasting my time online on here or Goodreads I'll be off playing video games, studying teaching and messing around with friends and pop culture. Or reading some more.

Maltese Falcon

The Maltese Falcon - Dashiell Hammett I was hoping for more from this novel than it ultimately delivered in the end. And that was the only thing that made me like this less.

Don't get me wrong the plot was good and the characters interesting but I didn't honestly care for it in the end. I was expecting something that explained itself to far greater effect more in the style of perhaps a slightly older detective novel.

I didn't quite care for the main protagonist either which is why I didn't enjoy this on the whole. He seemed morally ambiguous, almost like he was playing both sides of the law and didn't care who got hurt to protect himself. To me he was no hero for the story but rather more an anti-hero but even I like my anti-heroes to contain more noble qualities (take say Wolverine or Batman for instance).

But on the whole I was disappointed personally in this. However for anyone else who likes hardboiled detective fiction this might be just up your alley.
